Gravity started the domestic closed beta test (CBT) for Ragnarok Online PLUS+, its new multiplatform MMORPG for PC and mobile, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The phase is restricted to South Korea, runs through October 29 and is meant to let the developer examine core content and service stability ahead of the official launch, which still has no date. On PC, the client is downloaded from the game's official website; on mobile, access goes through Google Play and Apple's TestFlight. The pitch is a return to Midgard with a new narrative, auto-combat and shared progression across platforms.

Eight days of testing, no keys required

The test window lasts eight straight days, from October 22 to October 29, and targets the domestic Korean audience. Asian trade press describes the phase as open to any player in the country: there was no key distribution or code raffle, and access starts with a simple client download from the official website or an app install from the stores. It is a CBT model that works, in practice, as an early server test window — closer to a public stress test than to a traditional closed beta.

Running the test on PC and mobile at the same time is no accident. Ragnarok Online PLUS+ was designed from the start as a cross-platform game, with the same account and character available on both screens. For Gravity, the CBT is the first chance to measure, with a real player volume, whether that structure can handle the routine of an MMORPG — simultaneous logins, player trading, guilds and time-limited events.

Sol and Mani: two worlds born from Ymir's heart

The narrative is the main difference from the original Ragnarok Online. According to Gravity, the story starts from the Ymir myth: after Odin pierced the giant's heart, the scattered fragments gave rise to dimensions. From them came Sol, the world veterans recognize, and Mani, a dark dimension that keeps the memories of the wound. Players move between both sides, meeting alternate versions of familiar places and records that never appeared in the classic timeline.

The idea was first shown publicly at G-STAR 2025, then under the working title Ragnarok Online Project 1.5. At the time, the game drew attention for its tone: instead of a bright remake, Gravity showed a dark, hostile parallel universe, with corrupted enemies and an aesthetic that blends classic pixel art with digital glitch effects.

The official website details the system as an overlay of "phases" on Midgard. Both realities occupy the same continent, but in different states, and players cross that double layer to materialize records that were not observable. The main stage for this mechanic is the Sanctuary of Möbius, described as a secret conflict zone where the two phases merge imperfectly and where forbidden records hidden by the gods take shape. It is the game's new central content area, filling the role Midland played in the 2002 MMO.

The visual identity follows the concept: Gravity cites waves, glitches and equalizers as recurring graphic elements to reinforce the sense that the worlds are not merely separate but interfering with each other. In practice, it is how the developer justifies new creatures, maps and bosses without discarding the visual vocabulary that built the franchise.

Auto-combat, a PC widget and a shop that stays open

The project's other pillar is convenience. Gravity keeps hunting, progression and street trading as foundations but removes some of the friction that pushed players away from the original over the years. Auto-combat is the most visible example: the character attacks on its own, uses skills automatically and picks up items while the player follows the progression. The system also recommends and distributes stat and skill points, and movement can be automatic or instant.

On PC, the developer prepared a dedicated widget for auto mode. With the game window minimized, a bar at the bottom of the screen keeps showing the hunt in real time — a feature aimed at players who split their computer between the MMO and other tasks. It is a different solution from most games in the genre, which usually require the window open to keep the character active.

Other changes show up in the daily machinery:

The list shows where Gravity is placing its bets: less time lost in menus and travel, more time in combat and progression. It is the same logic that popularized idle RPGs on mobile, applied to a full MMORPG — with the difference that here players still control the character when they want to, without relying entirely on automation.

Rewards for those who join now

During the eight days, Gravity hands out rewards inside and outside the game. Daily login grants attendance prizes; accumulated play time and level milestones unlock extra items. The strongest incentive sits on day eight: anyone who completes the attendance streak receives, at official launch, a box that lets them choose between the angel wing band and the devil wing band, two popular headgear items from the original Ragnarok Online.

Treasure hunt and boss summon events are also planned, alongside activities on the official community. There, participants can submit CBT screenshots, report bugs and publish guides; those drawn in the raffle receive prizes after the game debuts. Gravity has not detailed whether these rewards apply only to Korean accounts, but every rule disclosed so far is tied to the domestic test.

"A new experience for the series," Gravity says

The company treats the test as both a showcase and a listening exercise. In a statement carried by Asian press, the head of the Ragnarok Online PLUS+ business team, Lee Hui-soo, explained the project's intent and asked players for feedback.

"As Ragnarok Online has been loved for a long time, we designed this title to expand the original universe while adding new elements, so that both veteran and new players are satisfied. True to the name Ragnarok Online PLUS+, we hope you look forward to this game, which brings a new experience to the series, and we invite everyone to join the CBT and share your thoughts."

The comment sums up the South Korean company's strategy for the brand: instead of replacing the 2002 MMO, it treats the IP as a platform and ships spin-offs for different audiences and regions. Ragnarok Online PLUS+ is the most ambitious bet on that list, because it tries to unite the PC crowd, used to grind and trading, with mobile players who expect short sessions and automation.

What it means for Brazil

Brazil is one of the franchise's historic markets, with local servers since the mid-2000s and a community that has outlasted several publishers. So far, however, Gravity has not announced a beta, pre-registration or release date for Ragnarok Online PLUS+ in the West. All material released this week is in Korean and tied to the domestic test, and the game's Google Play listing appears in Korean in the Brazilian store.

Fans do have a recent parallel: Gravity is also pushing Ragnarok: GO, an idle RPG with pre-registration open in Southeast Asia, and keeps other spin-offs running. The difference is that PLUS+ is no smaller side project: it is the spiritual successor to the original MMO, with a promise of continuous updates and long-term content. The Santuário Geek games coverage follows the next steps.

What to watch until October 29

The CBT should deliver the first real impressions on three points: cross-play stability between PC and mobile, the balance of auto-combat in a game that still wants to be challenging, and the public's reaction to the world of Mani. If Gravity keeps to the schedule, the end of the test opens the way for a release date announcement — likely with a new round of global tests before the commercial debut.

For those following closely, the official website gathers downloads, patch notes and the event calendar. Reward rules and the access walkthrough are detailed on the game's download page.
