Mycopunk leaves Early Access, launches on PC and PS5
Published on · Updated on
After 15 months in Early Access, Mycopunk hits 1.0 on PC and debuts on PS5 with a new character, fresh weapons and a limited-time 50% off discount.

The co-op shooter Mycopunk has left Early Access and reached version 1.0 on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, on PC (via Steam) and, for the first time, on PlayStation 5, where it is already available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Developed by Pigeons at Play and published by Devolver Digital, the game spent about 15 months in Early Access since July 2025 and closes that chapter with an update that adds a new playable character, fresh weapons, a harder region and a reworked upgrade system. The debut comes with a limited-time 50% discount on Valve's store.
The news was confirmed by Devolver Digital itself on social media and in the game's official Steam blog, and was picked up by international outlets such as Inven Global, which reported the launch on October 21 local time in South Korea. The game ships with full English voice acting, plus a Brazilian Portuguese interface and subtitles, widening the reach of a title built on humor, fast-paced shooting and modular progression.
What changes in version 1.0
The launch update is more than a "finished" badge: it packs the biggest content drop the studio has delivered so far. The headline addition is the Mycologist, the fifth playable employee of the New Atlas Hazard Crew, described as a survivor who spent more than a year isolated on the contaminated moon and developed control over spores. Unlocking her requires completing a specific rescue mission.
The arsenal grows with the Diffraction Driver, an ion shotgun with an adjustable damage cone, and the Snowball Grenade, which freezes enemies and introduces deep-freeze mechanics — handy for shattering entire hordes. Version 1.0 also adds new modes, maps, grenades and upgrades, and delivers on the community's most repeated request: wearable hats for the robots.
The X11-B moon and the new infusion system
For veterans who had already exhausted the previous content, the studio prepared the X11-B region, a secondary moon designed for squads with top-tier gear. The area relies on electromagnetic storms that block ability activation and on tougher mutants, creating a challenge separate from the rest of the map.
Another structural change hits the core of progression: pattern infusion. The physical size of a modifier on the upgrade grid now directly affects the strength of its bonuses. Shrinking a part weakens its numbers; slotting larger shapes boosts the stats. The change forces players to rethink builds that had worked since Early Access.
"It is incredible that this is the last blog post to be making during Early Access, and we couldn't be any happier with what we've been able to put together for 1.0. Thank you for signing up with Saxon's Early Access program, and be rest assured, there's more Mycopunk on the way."
On the new region, the team was direct about its intent: "Our goal with X11-B was to make a region that adds challenge for those who have been playing since we launched into Early Access," the studio wrote in a post published two days before launch. The developer also confirmed that post-release updates are already in the works, including the possibility of further regions.
How combat and progression work
Set in the year 4083, Mycopunk casts the player as one of the discarded robots hired by the SAXON corporation to investigate a fungal catastrophe that has taken over the moon of New Atlas. The premise blends sci-fi, corporate humor and an unlikely cast — including Baratín Ado, the insectoid veteran in charge of mission control.
The differentiator is the mix of first-person shooting and weapon crafting. Every piece of the arsenal can be boosted on a hexagonal upgrade grid, where modifiers take up space and combine in different ways. The result is absurd weaponry: healing supports, deflecting shields strapped to chainsaws or builds that turn the character into a bomb.
The enemies, however, do not sit still. Some creatures can pick up the parts blown off fallen allies to grow larger and stronger, demanding constant adaptation mid-fight. Between missions, players return to the H.U.B., an orbital dropship that doubles as a base and social hub, packed with minigames, side activities and hidden secrets.
Price, PlayStation Plus and player reception
On Steam, Mycopunk costs US$ 14.99, with a limited-time 50% discount for launch that brings the price down to roughly US$ 7.49. In Brazil, it sells for R$ 46.99, discounted to R$ 23.49, in a promotion running until November 3. On PlayStation 5, the game joined the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog from day one — a strategy Devolver has used in previous launches.

Valve's platform offers the most immediate gauge of performance. As of the morning of Thursday, October 22, the game had 4,268 user reviews with 87% positive ratings — a "Very Positive" score on Steam. Reviews from the last 30 days, however, show 74% approval across 194 reviews, a sign that part of the veteran base is still digesting the 1.0 changes and the balance tweaks that followed launch.
The studio shipped two emergency patches within the first 48 hours: patch 2.0.1 fixed achievements that would not unlock and mission objective progression, while patch 2.0.2, released on Thursday, improved performance on the mission select screen, fixed reload animations and adjusted how upgrade infusion works.

Why the launch matters for the indie scene
Mycopunk emerged as one of Devolver Digital's most talked-about titles on the indie festival circuit, thanks to its colorful look, co-op combat and absurd humor. In a market saturated with extraction shooters and grim loot shooters, the studio's bet is something lighter and more accessible — without giving up mechanical depth.
Devolver Digital itself has built a reputation for publishing eccentric, carefully calculated risks, and putting Mycopunk in the PlayStation Plus catalog shows the bet is also a reach strategy: instead of fighting for attention only on Valve's store, the game lands free for millions of Sony subscribers, expanding the concurrent player base in a genre that depends on group sessions.
For the studio, the moment also closes a growth cycle. Since Early Access began, the game received procedural maps, the Ouroboros hardcore mode, turbo charges and hundreds of gear modifiers. "This has been and remains the biggest and longest project in the studio's history," the team summed up in a statement carried by international press.
System requirements and where to play
On PC, Mycopunk requires an Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-8350 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 960, Radeon R9 380 or Arc A380 to run at 1080p/30 fps on low settings. The recommended setup for 1080p/60 fps on high asks for a Core i7-6700K or Ryzen 5 1500X plus a GeForce RTX 2080, Radeon RX 5700 XT or Arc A750. The game takes up 10 GB of storage and needs a broadband connection for co-op.
On console, the PlayStation 5 version marks the franchise's debut outside PC and supports controllers, while also being available in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog. Players who prefer to buy it separately can get it on the PlayStation Store, while PC players find version 1.0 on Steam, alongside a Supporter Edition that bundles the soundtrack and a cosmetics pack.
What comes next
The 1.0 launch does not mean the end of support. Pigeons at Play has already said that content is planned for post-launch updates, including the exploration of new regions with their own mechanics. For fans of the co-op genre, the question now is whether the game can keep its base engaged after the initial launch buzz and the PlayStation Plus debut.
