Fortnite Pirate Shop Token: how to get and use it
Published on · Updated on
The ultra-rare Treasure Hunters reward unlocks 14 days of free Item Shop cosmetics in 2026 and 2027. Here is how to find it and activate the token.

Fortnite is in the middle of the Treasure Hunters mini-season, which began on November 1, 2026, on Crossbones Isle, and the most coveted item right now is not a skin: it is the Pirate Shop Access Token. Handed out as a random chest reward in Battle Royale, the token unlocks 14 days of an almost entirely free Item Shop — and the player also receives a second activation for 2027. Below, O Santuário Geek explains what the token does, how to improve your odds of finding it, the step-by-step to activate it, and the December 15 deadline for this year's window.
What the Pirate Shop Access Token actually is
The Pirate Shop Access Token is an extremely rare consumable that appears in the Treasure Hunters chest prize pool. Once activated, it turns the Item Shop into a "plundered" version of itself: for 14 days, anything sold for V-Bucks — outfits, pickaxes, emotes, jam tracks, back blings and even collaborations — can be claimed at no cost, simply by confirming the claim the same way you would complete a normal purchase.
The detail that explains the community frenzy is permanence: everything claimed stays on the account for good, even after the season ends. On top of that, the prize is not a single use. Anyone who finds the token receives two activations, one for 2026 and one for 2027, each with the same 14-day window. In practice, that means four weeks of an open shop across two different years.
The official rules are printed on the in-game reward screen itself, which appears in the lobby as soon as the winning chest is opened:
"Plunder the Fortnite Item Shop — twice! Activate the Pirate Shop once in 2026 and once in 2027. Each time, you can claim anything sold for V-Bucks in the Fortnite Item Shop for free for 14 days from activation. Real money offers, gifting and passes levels/rewards are excluded, and you can only claim one free sidekick you do not already own. This treasure is not transferable."
How to get the token: chests, squads and timings
There is no guaranteed route. The token sits in the Battle Royale chest reward pool and is rolled at random, which makes obtaining it a mix of match volume and luck. Even so, a few choices objectively increase how many chests you open per hour — and therefore how many attempts you get.
The first is to open as many chests as possible rather than contesting only the weekly captain's mega chest. The second is to play in a squad: because chest rewards are shared among party members, one player opening the winning chest is enough for everyone to receive the token. Four players opening chests at a fast pace means four times as many attempts per match.
Where to open chests on Crossbones Isle
The season map, named Crossbones Isle, holds 80 players and concentrates points of interest with a high density of chests. The ones most often cited by the community and by specialist guides are Arlong Park, Loguetown, Lantern Landing and Windmill Village, plus A$AP Rocky's battleship, the $.$. Rocky. Confirmed token finds have already been reported at Arlong Park and Loguetown, but that reflects luck, not a proven hot spot.
There are also two efficiency tricks that do not depend on luck. The first is to revisit chests you have already opened: in the v43.00 patch notes, Epic Games states that chests refill over time, which allows you to open them again after a while. The second is to use specific Sprites: the Fortune Sprite reveals nearby chests, and Plundarrgh grants pickaxe and movement speed when you open chests, speeding up the rotation between points of interest.
Play in a squad: the prize is shared
Sharing is the consensus among the outlets that covered the reward. You do not need to win the match or survive to the end: the token is credited to the account as soon as the chest is opened, and the reward screen appears when the player returns to the lobby. There are already reports of players who died shortly after the find and kept the prize.
One caveat: the token is not available in Ranked matches. It drops only in public Battle Royale lobbies, according to the guides that tested the modes.
How to activate it, use it and meet the deadlines
Activation, step by step
Activation is manual and free. The 14-day clock only starts after the player confirms activation, which leaves room to wait for the most advantageous moment on the calendar — such as the arrival of a specific collaboration.
- Return to the main lobby and open the Item Shop tab.
- Find the "Plunder the Item Shop" button at the bottom of the screen.
- In the confirmation window, select "Activate Now". The 14-day counter starts at that moment.
- Check the deadline printed on the activation screen itself — it appears in your own local time zone.
- Come back to the shop every day and claim the items marked FREE before the window closes. Claimed items stay on the account forever.
The activation screen also repeats the restrictions and the deadline: for the 2026 window, the in-game text states that the Pirate Shop for that year must be activated by December 15. That moment is 7 PM ET, which is already 00:00 UTC on December 16. Outlets that published the date in other time zones have quoted December 16; it is the same instant converted.
Activation windows and what is excluded
The two activations have separate windows. The 2026 one follows the season; the 2027 one has its own range, which, according to data pulled from the game and repeated by specialist press, runs from January 1 to December 15 of next year. Missing this year's deadline does not cancel the 2027 benefit — only the corresponding activation.
| Window | Activation allowed | Duration after activating |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | November 1 to December 15, 2026 | 14 calendar days |
| 2027 | January 1 to December 15, 2027 | 14 calendar days |
The exclusion list is short but important if you want to avoid wrong expectations. What is out of reach:
- Real-money offers — packs sold in dollars or another currency, rather than V-Bucks, cannot be claimed.
- Gifting — you cannot send items to friends using the Pirate Shop.
- Pass levels and rewards — the Pirate Shop does not unlock the Battle Pass or its rewards.
- Sidekicks — only one free sidekick you do not already own can be claimed.
- Transferring — the token is personal and cannot be passed on after the match.
What is included, in practice, is nearly the entire paid catalogue: outfits, pickaxes, emotes, back blings, wraps, jam tracks and collaboration bundles sold for V-Bucks. This season that includes the One Piece skins, which usually cost between 1,600 and 1,800 V-Bucks each.
How rare is the token? What is known about the odds
Epic Games has not published a drop rate. The figure that circulates most widely comes from Beebom, which cites a 1 in 700,000 chance (0.000143%) per spawn on the map — a number no outlet has been able to confirm with the developer and which should be treated with caution. The safer reading is that the reward sits in the weekly chest prize pool, with no guaranteed appearance and no disclosed cap on winners.
Player reports help calibrate expectations. One of the first winners said they opened around 150 chests before finding the token; another reported 100 chests with nothing. Two samples are not statistics, but they illustrate why the community treats the item as a legend.
"At the time of writing, we've only seen a handful of people with it."
It is worth recording the chronology, because it explains part of the confusion. On the morning of November 1, the prize was still treated as a leak by outlets such as Fortnite Tracker, which described the reward as something "not confirmed by Epic". A few hours later, screenshots from winning players showed the official in-game reward screen, and the mechanic began to be treated as real by IGN, VICE and Beebom. Epic has not published a dedicated article explaining the Pirate Shop — the known rules come from the game's own screens and from community observation.
Beware of scams: there is no code, generator or gift token
With a prize this size, it was only a matter of time before pages appeared promising "token codes" or "Pirate Shop generators". None of that exists. The token is an internal reward tied to the account that opened the chest and cannot be transferred. Epic Games has never handed out free V-Bucks codes, and any site asking for a login, password or payment details in exchange for the token should be treated as fraud.
The official recommendation shown on the reward screen itself is to enable two-factor authentication at fn.gg/2FA. An account holding two free shop windows is a valuable target, and the cost of protecting access is low.
What is still coming before December 5
The season ends on December 5, the same date as the Chapter 7 finale event. Until then, the Item Shop release calendar defines when it is worth activating the token — especially for anyone who wants to capture collaboration skins before they rotate out.
| Date | Shop arrival |
|---|---|
| November 1 | Luffy, Nami and Usopp (One Piece) |
| November 5, 7 PM ET | A$AP Rocky |
| November 7 | Zoro, Sanji and the Chopper sidekick |
| November 12 | Lil Uzi Vert |
| November 13 | Buggy |
| November 14 | Kasane Teto and Cap'n Hatsune Miku |
| December 3 | One Piece bundle leaves the shop |
| December 5 | Season ends and Chapter 7 event |
For anyone who already holds the token, the math is simple: activating around November 5 covers every dated release through November 19, including the One Piece wave and the Chopper sidekick. Anyone who prefers to bet on the finale event can wait until early December, but risks missing the One Piece bundle, which leaves the shop on December 3. Because the counter only starts at activation, the planning is entirely under the player's control — as long as it happens before the December 15 deadline.
Is hunting the token worth it?
As a luck-based reward, the token should not be the reason for a play routine: anyone opening chests for fun is already in the draw and also collects gizmos, treasure keys, in-match items and cosmetics from the weekly waves. For those who play in a group, though, the math improves considerably, because the prize is shared and the cost of trying is simply to keep playing.
What does not change is the nature of the item: it is rare, it is not sold, it is not transferable and it has no redemption code. Anyone who finds one should check the shop calendar before activating and save the second window for 2027, when the catalogue will be different.
