Jason in Fortnite Fortnitemares: Where to Find and How to Defeat the Camp Crystal Lake Terror

That chill exploring the Fortnite map during Fortnitemares? Jason Voorhees is stalking the island — where to find him and how to beat him.

Have you ever felt that chill down your spine while exploring the Fortnite map during Fortnitemares? That feeling that something (or someone) is watching you from between the trees? Know that it is not paranoia: Jason Voorhees, the iconic Friday the 13th killer, is lurking around the island, and facing him is one of the most thrilling — and rewarding — challenges of the event. If you are wasting precious playtime looking for him or getting wiped out before even drawing your weapon, this guide is your map to victory. Ready to hunt the hunter?
Terror Has an Address: Where to Find Jason
Jason does not lurk just anywhere. He has two fixed spawn locations, and his presence is marked by a distinctive icon: a crowned skull. Here is the trick: that icon only shows on your map when you are at the same Point of Interest (POI) as him. So forget about marking the map before landing! Focus on these two areas:
- Creepy Camps: Head to the northern edge of the location, near the huge wooden cabin that dominates the landscape. Jason usually wanders slowly around the lake and between the abandoned tents, always close to the main structure.
- Freaky Fields: Look at the western edge of the fields, specifically around the big hay bale and near the red barn. Pay extra attention here: this POI can also be home to Doja Cat, another boss in the event. How to tell them apart? Doja Cat is usually standing still on her throne near the barn, while Jason is always on the move, a predator patrolling his territory.
If you reach one of these spots and do not see the crowned-skull icon, do not waste time! Jason is not there this match. Your best bet is to land directly at one of the two POIs at the start of the match to maximize your chances of finding him before other players take him down or he shifts position. Remember: he may teleport to another nearby point within the same POI, but he never fully leaves the area.

Strategies to Send the Terror Back to the Lake
Finding Jason is half the battle; defeating him is where things get bloody — for him, hopefully! This boss is no joke. Jason is a tank: he has an absurd amount of health, far beyond other bosses or common enemies. His main attack is the machete, and do not underestimate the range and damage of his swings. One or two clean hits can take down even the best-prepared player.
The key to victory lies in a simple but crucial strategy: distance control and consistent damage. Jason is slow. He does not run; he just walks menacingly toward you. Use that to your advantage! Always stay at a safe distance, using the environment (trees, rocks, buildings) to build barriers between you. Shoot freely, prioritizing headshots to maximize damage. High-damage ranged weapons, such as sniper rifles or powerful shotguns, are your best friends. If you are lucky enough to find a Pumpkin Launcher, use it! Area damage can deal a devastating blow to the slow killer.
Another critical factor: other players. The reward for defeating Jason is coveted by everyone. It is almost guaranteed you will not be hunting alone. Ideally, face him with your full squad. While some members focus fire on Jason, others should stand guard, protecting the group against ambushes from rival teams looking to steal the reward. Communication is essential: call out if an enemy team is approaching! The fight against Jason can quickly turn into an all-out brawl if you are not prepared for the free-for-all.
The Terror's Treasure: Rewards for Defeating Jason
Is it worth all the effort? Absolutely! Defeating Jason not only satisfies your thirst for justice (or revenge, depending on your side) but also secures valuable rewards:
- Fortnitemares quest: Completing the "Defeat Jason" challenge grants 10,000 XP, a huge boost to level up and unlock the Season 6, Chapter 4 rewards.
- Instant loot: After he falls, Jason drops survival and combat essentials: the Mythic High Stakes Shotgun — a devastating close-combat weapon —, an Epic Slurp Potion to restore health and shield, 800 Gold to buy supplies or rehire NPCs, and assorted ammo.
- Elimination XP: Just for eliminating the boss, you earn an additional 1,500 XP bonus.
The Mythic Shotgun alone is worth the risk, as one of the most powerful weapons available during the event. Want more tips to master the other spooky Fortnitemares challenges? Check out our full guide on how to find and defeat the Ultima Carver, another boss giving players goosebumps!
