Roblox brings Build AI to Thailand and courts creators

The AI tool that turns text prompts into playable games arrives in Thailand, one of four initial test markets; Roblox wants to attract local creators.

Roblox has chosen Thailand as one of four countries for the initial rollout of Build, an artificial intelligence-powered game creation tool that turns text prompts into playable experiences on a phone. The announcement was made at the UNBOX ROBLOX event in Bangkok on Oct. 30, 2026, and reported by the Bangkok Post in early November. Thailand joins New Zealand, Serbia and Singapore in the gradual test, which requires age verification and offers a free daily AI allowance, with the option to buy more capacity with Robux. The move is part of the company's bet on markets with strong creative communities and comes as user growth on the platform slows.
What Build is and how it works
Build is a tab inside the Roblox app, designed for Android and iOS phones. Users describe the game they want in natural language; the tool generates a playable version in minutes, which can be tested, adjusted with further instructions and published without leaving the app. No coding knowledge is required. Those who want more can open the same project in Roblox Studio, the company's free development tool, to edit environments, scripts and systems with more control.
The goal is to lower the technical barrier that separates players from creation. Instead of learning a 3D editor, a beginner can write something like "a game where I collect coins and buy speed upgrades" and get a working starting point. From there, they can ask for changes in plain language — "make the coins bigger," "speed up the game" — and test the result before publishing.
How to start
- Open the Roblox app on your phone and tap the Build tab.
- Describe the game in as much detail as possible and send the request.
- Watch the generation, playtest the build and ask for adjustments in the chat.
- When you are happy with it, publish. The game goes through a quick safety check before it becomes available.
Creators can also share a playtest link with friends before publishing and later open the project in Roblox Studio to add more advanced features. Roblox notes that changes made outside the Build chat may remove the automatic content rating and require the full maturity questionnaire.
Cost and who can use it
Build is free to start but has a daily AI usage limit. Every message sent uses part of that allowance, which resets the next day. Those who want to keep creating can wait for the reset or buy more usage with Robux, the platform's currency. Roblox says the feature is aimed at people who have never tried game development, but it can also serve as an entry point for experienced creators.
To use it, you must be 9 or older and complete an age check. Build games are published by default to players 16 and older worldwide, with regional exceptions. Creators who want to open access to players aged 9 to 15 must apply through the Roblox Select process, which includes a content review. The company also offers parental controls and safety features, a topic that gained weight after criticism and lawsuits over child protection on the platform.
Why Thailand was chosen
The choice is not only geographic. Roblox says Thailand has an engaged creator community and a culture of creativity that blends folklore, architecture and local events into games. During UNBOX ROBLOX, the company showcased Thai studios that have already reached global audiences. One example is Pall's Studio, led by @pallaboy1234, whose horror game 6PM has passed 28 million visits and received more than 176,000 favorites. The studio also built a brand integration for the Netflix film Ghost Board.
Another case is Jinn Kode Code, a father-and-son duo who teach children and teachers to create games in Roblox Studio. Jinn started learning to code at age 8 and has won several competitions; his father, Anutr, has a degree in computer science. Together they have developed games for brands, banks and even the Thai government, including Taro Roll Party for Taro Snack, which passed 1 million visits.
"Thailand has one of the most creative and engaged communities on Roblox, and we're committed to helping it grow. Bringing Build to Thailand means anyone with an idea can start creating, and we're excited to see what Thai creators make next."
Dev also said the company is working "closely with regulators, local communities and parents" — a signal that the expansion comes with scrutiny over safety and privacy. The comment was published by the Bangkok Post in the same announcement of Build's arrival in the country.
Four countries and a gradual expansion
Build was announced in July 2026 and began a closed test in New Zealand. In September, at the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), the company expanded the public alpha to Serbia and Singapore. Thailand is now the fourth market. Distribution is gradual and varies by age, region and device; the Roblox Help Center mentions a rollout starting with Mac desktops and Android and iOS phones in the four countries, though the experience is presented as mobile-first.
Roblox says more than 100,000 players used Build to try creating a game in the initial phase, and about 9,000 games were published. Of the thousands who created something, 71% had never used Roblox Studio. The company also said creator satisfaction rose 10% and unintended outputs fell from 18% to 3% after adjustments to the system.
| Metric | Reported figure |
|---|---|
| People who used Build in the initial phase | More than 100,000 |
| Games published with the tool | About 9,000 |
| Creators who had never used Roblox Studio | 71% |
| Roblox daily active users in Q3 2026 | 138 million |
| Engagement hours in the quarter | Nearly 34 billion |
| Asia-Pacific share of DAUs | 30%, according to the Bangkok Post |
The numbers help explain the interest: AI creation lowers the technical barrier and can increase the volume of games. The challenge is quality. Roblox itself acknowledges that simpler games, such as clickers, arcade titles and collect-and-score experiences, work best at this stage; complex genres such as RPGs, shooters and racing games still face playability problems. Roblox's recent history includes other examples of how the platform handles creation and moderation, such as the controversy over scraping 3D models for AI training and the arrival of Yakuza Blocks on Roblox.
The AI bet in a declining quarter
In the third quarter of 2026, Roblox reported 138 million daily active users, nearly 34 billion engagement hours and 30% of users in Asia-Pacific, according to the Bangkok Post. The figure is up 12% from the previous quarter but down 9% year over year — the first annual DAU decline ever reported by the company. Revenue rose 16% to $1.57 billion, while bookings fell 12% to $1.7 billion, according to the official report.
The company attributes part of the pressure to tough comparisons with 2025 and to changes in safety controls for younger users. At the same time, it bets that AI can expand creation and improve retention. On the earnings call, CEO David Baszucki said AI is "fundamentally reshaping the gaming industry" and that Roblox wants to be the platform that combines distribution, discovery, economy and safety.
"When anyone can create a game, what matters most is scaled distribution, effective discovery, a robust economy, industry-leading safety, and infrastructure to support it all."
According to the company, more than 80% of the top 100 games on the platform used some AI tool in the last month. Two games created almost entirely with AI, Break and Steal an Egg and Huss Valley, entered the top 20 by concurrent players in the third quarter, according to the Bangkok Post. That does not mean AI replaces studios: curation, moderation and quality remain bottlenecks.
Safety, age and what changes for creators
Build's expansion comes amid heightened attention to child safety. The tool requires age verification and, by default, publishes games to players 16 and older. Roblox says games go through a quick safety check before going live and that creators can use the "Report Issue" button to flag inappropriate results. The company also offers Roblox Kids, for children under 9, Roblox Select, for those under 15, and Family Zone, launched in July 2026 so parents and children can explore the platform together.
For creators, Build can be a gateway, but it also raises questions about originality, copyright and moderation. Roblox says games must follow its community standards and that content based on third-party brands or characters may be rejected. Publishers are responsible for what they publish, as with any game on the platform.
"We are working closely with regulators, local communities and parents."
What to watch next
Roblox appointed Joel Neoh as managing director for Southeast Asia and Oceania in October. He will oversee strategy, partnerships and support for local developers and studios. According to the Bangkok Post, Neoh said Roblox could help a new generation of regional creators turn ideas into experiences, communities and businesses with global reach.
Zhen Fang, Roblox's vice president of international, said the company would continue investing in local teams, creators and partners. He spoke at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026 in Bangkok, and the company held its Roblox Creator Series SEA the next day. The company is also preparing Build updates, including Scene Generator, which will bring prompt-to-scene generation to Build and Studio.
For Brazilian readers, the move suggests Build may reach new markets, but there is no confirmed date for Brazil. Roblox did not say which countries are next or whether the feature will leave testing. It also did not detail local pricing for extra AI usage, which should be confirmed when the tool arrives in each country.
Meanwhile, Thailand is becoming a laboratory for a model that mixes AI-assisted creation, Robux monetization and new developer training. If Build can repeat its New Zealand performance, the platform may gain a new pipeline of creators — and a new challenge in moderating what they publish. Read more games news on O Santuário Geek.
