Yakuza Blocks: Like a Dragon launched on Roblox on October 29, 2026, as an official collaboration between SEGA and GeekOut. The free-to-play experience brings players to Kamurocho, with streets inspired by the series, real-time brawling based on Like a Dragon, character progression, online play, and mini-games. It is accessed through Roblox, and the launch announcement says that optional in-game purchases are available.

What Yakuza Blocks is and how to access it

The title is an officially licensed Like a Dragon experience—known in many markets as Yakuza—developed by GeekOut Studio and published by GeekOut in collaboration with SEGA. It grew out of an official virtual-space project announced in May 2025; the concept has now arrived as an action game with activities for people who enter the platform.

The game is available through its official Roblox page and uses a free-to-play model with in-experience purchases. Roblox lists support for PC, mobile devices, tablets, and compatible consoles. SEGA did not announce item prices, a season pass, or paid advantages in its release notice, so there is no basis to claim that any particular content is mandatory or that every part of the experience is free without exceptions.

SEGA says the launch began at 6 a.m. Japan Standard Time on October 29. Because the experience is connected to Roblox, access also depends on platform availability and account rules in each region. The official game page is available here.

Kamurocho returns, but the launch map is limited

The fictional city that serves as the setting for much of the franchise is the game’s main visual draw. GeekOut and SEGA say Kamurocho has been rebuilt inside Roblox as a map players can freely explore. At launch, however, the map does not cover the entire city: the available area centers on the streets around Tenkaichi Street, including alleys and main roads that evoke the series’ entertainment district.

That boundary helps set expectations. The experience was not announced as a complete version of Kamurocho or as an adaptation of a traditional console campaign. The announcement describes an explorable space expected to grow over time, taking player feedback and usage data into account. No schedule has been announced for opening additional districts.

The game blends visual references from the series with Roblox’s block-based style. That changes the scale and look of the streets while preserving recognizable locations and letting players move through them together. The result sits between a social map and an action game: the city is a place to meet other users, fight enemies, and access activities.

Real-time brawling and character progression

Combat uses real-time brawling inspired by the series. Players face enemies encountered on the streets and can use special moves associated with the franchise. In Like a Dragon, Heat Actions are cinematic attacks that draw on an energy gauge; SEGA’s description says the new game carries this type of move into its battle system.

Victories award points that can be invested in three character categories: Mind, Skill, and Body. According to the announcement, each track affects different areas, including experience and rewards, combat performance, and physical attributes. Players can choose among multiple fighting styles, whose unique actions also change as the character develops.

The company has not detailed damage values, upgrade costs, progression pacing, or balance between styles. Those details may change through updates, so the launch announcement is a guide to the initial scope rather than a promise that each ability will keep the same values. For newcomers, the basic loop is straightforward: fight, earn points, and choose where to invest them to strengthen an avatar.

Multiplayer and mini-games broaden the experience

Yakuza Blocks lets players explore Kamurocho alongside other connected users and cooperate in activities. The launch materials also confirm mini-games, a recurring feature in the main Like a Dragon titles. GeekOut says it plans to add more content and mini-games in stages, but has not announced what comes next or when updates will arrive.

This structure could make the experience more than a themed map visit. Combat provides a progression goal, while exploration and mini-games give friends reasons to remain in the same space. At the same time, the quality of that loop will depend on updates, server stability, and the balance of optional purchases—factors that can only be assessed as the game runs over time.

GeekOut says its studio has 20 developers and that work by its members has accumulated more than 5.5 billion Roblox visits as of October 2026. The company-derived figure sums public data for earlier projects involving team members; it does not measure the performance of Yakuza Blocks. The new game has just launched, so there is not yet a history of players that would allow its reception to be measured.

Official license and launch details

An officially licensed experience is different from an unauthorized fan-made map. SEGA identifies the game as official and credits development to GeekOut Studio, working with the franchise owner. The project’s first announcement in 2025 described a Like a Dragon virtual space on Roblox; the launch turns that collaboration into a playable experience with exploration, combat, and online activities.
