Garfield: Escape from Monday gets a gameplay video with brand-new mechanics and an official release date.
Publisher Microids and Awesomenauts Studio have officially revealed the first 10 minutes of gameplay from Garfield – Escape from Monday, the new 3D platform adventure starring the famous lasagna-loving cat. The video showcases the prologue and the opening moments of the title's first stage, while confirming a release date of September 24, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The story premise turns Garfield's hatred of Mondays into a literal nightmare. After eating a spinach lasagna prepared by Jon Arbuckle, the feline falls into a deep sleep and wakes up in a surreal world full of giant vegetables and sugar-free sweets. To wake up and return to reality, players must guide Garfield through dangerous scenarios demanding precise jumps, wall runs, rolls and boss battles across the levels.
Special costumes change the gameplay and add flying mechanics
Beyond the basic 3D platforming movement, Garfield – Escape from Monday bets on themed costumes that directly change the protagonist's physics and abilities. During the journey, players unlock three main outfits:
- Turkey Costume: lets Garfield glide through the air to reach distant platforms.
- Surfer Costume: lets him slide across water at high speed.
- Cowboy Costume: grants a lasso for swinging from specific points in the stages.
The game will feature three distinct worlds and more than 40 stages in total. Throughout the levels, players can collect special items scattered across the map, which will be used to customize and decorate Jon's house in the game menu.
Classic characters confirmed in the cast
The production brings several beloved characters from the comic strips and cartoons to interact with players. Jon Arbuckle, the dog Odie, girlfriend Arlene and teddy bear Pooky act as allies, offering support along the journey. In contrast, kitten Nermal and mouse Squeak appear in the story as antagonists and obstacles along the way.
So far, the publisher has not disclosed details about pricing on Brazilian digital stores or the presence of Portuguese dubbing or subtitles. The global launch remains scheduled for late September.
