Toei Games, the video game arm of Japan's Toei Company (led by President Fumio Yoshimura), will make its first-ever appearance at the gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026, taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 29 to November 1, 2026. At the brand's booth, attendees will be able to try the latest playable demo builds of three titles in development for PC via Steam: KILLA, HINO and DEBUG NEPHEMEE. The announcement, made on Monday, October 20, reinforces the company's strategy of expanding its games business beyond the domestic Japanese market.

A Japanese entertainment giant expanding into gaming

Headquartered in Tokyo and with over 75 years of history across film, TV dramas and theater, Toei Company officially launched the Toei Games brand in April 2026, aiming to bring its storytelling tradition to an entirely new medium: video games. Since then, the division has been building its portfolio in partnership with independent studios from Japan and abroad — a path that pairs the weight of beloved geek franchises (Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and One Piece, produced by Toei Animation) with authorial projects from smaller developers.

The appearance at gamescom asia is another chapter of this intense international agenda. In August 2026, Toei Games made its first appearance outside Japan at the Busan Indie Connect Festival (BIC 2026) in South Korea. The brand then made its first-ever showing at the Tokyo Game Show 2026 (September 17–21, at Makuhari Messe) and also attended ChinaJoy 2026, China's largest gaming event. In just a few months, the brand has reached three major Asian markets.

Why Bangkok is strategic for global expansion

The gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026 is one of Asia's largest gaming exhibitions in both B2B (business) and B2C (public) formats. The show is Southeast Asia's largest integrated gaming event and is the result of the merger between gamescom asia — the Asian edition of gamescom, the world's largest gaming event, held in Cologne, Germany — and the Thailand Game Show, the region's largest B2C event. It is co-organized by Koelnmesse, Show No Limit and Online Station.

By choosing Bangkok, Toei Games is targeting a market that is growing at a fast pace: Southeast Asia hosts one of the fastest-expanding player bases in the world, and Thailand has established itself as a regional hub for industry events. According to the announcement, starting with this first appearance, the company plans to actively expand touchpoints with global gamers, local media and business partners, while accelerating international awareness of its lineup.

The three titles in development for PC (Steam) will have updated demo builds available to visitors. Final release dates remain undecided, which makes the demos the main showcase of each project's current stage.

KILLA: 3D mystery with multiple endings

Developed by the Korean team Black Tangerine, KILLA is a 3D investigation adventure with multiple endings. Protagonist Valhalla sets out for an unknown island in search of the person who murdered her mentor — someone she considered family. Set on a dark, fantastical puppet-show world stage, nine suspects all share the same name, "La", and gameplay revolves around the "resonance" power, with which she dives into the suspects' memories and pieces together dream fragments to reconstruct the truth. The game's Steam page is already live.

HINO: darkness drawn in ballpoint pen

Born from the partnership between studio UnGloomStudio and illustrator Yatara, whose ballpoint pen artwork defines the game's visual identity, HINO is a 2D action-adventure with a heavy atmosphere. The titular girl awakens in a ruined kindergarten, in a world ruled by darkness, where her only support is the "Lightbulb Cane" that gave her life back. Accompanied by the strange partner "Moni-Moni Skeleton" — who, among the creatures of this world, only wants a can of cafe au lait — she advances through the monster-infested world in search of a place of rest and of her own identity. The title is currently featuring in the Steam Next Fest, and its Steam page is available.

DEBUG NEPHEMEE: multitasking combat across four screens

Closing the lineup, DEBUG NEPHEMEE comes from the independent Nephemee Studio, run by a single developer. The top-down pixel-art adventure is set in a world corrupted by an anomaly called "Bugs", inhabited by creatures known as Nephemee. Its multitasking battle system asks the player to manage simultaneous actions across four controllable screens at the same time, while trying to "debug" the world and the Nephemee themselves. The Steam page is already gathering wishlist members.

An ongoing bet on the Asian indie ecosystem

The lineup's composition reveals a clear editorial line at Toei Games: pairing the distribution and marketing muscle of a storied Japanese studio with the creativity of indie teams — Korean on KILLA, Japanese on HINO and DEBUG NEPHEMEE. The same logic guided the brand's debut on the Korean indie festival circuit, of which BIC is a central piece.

For players outside Japan, the move signals that the three titles are set to gain ever more global visibility in the coming months, including multi-language support on the games' official pages and a stronger chance of attention from the Western press — the recent track record of Asian indie games backed by major publishers shows this equation already worked before.
