XLGAMES has released a free demo for ArcheAge Chronicles as part of Steam Next Fest, with four playable classes, PvP open to the public for the first time and the Throne of Hinnon dungeon. The build stays live until 2:00 AM KST on October 27 — which is 2:00 PM on October 26 in Brasília.

Anyone with a Steam account can download and play, with no sign-up form, test key or regional restriction — something that did not happen in September's network test, limited to North America. The demo is the last major showcase before the action MMORPG enters Early Access, which XLGAMES still plans to launch in 2026 but which remains undated and unpriced on the official Steam page.

The build went live on October 19 at 10 AM Pacific (2 PM in Brasília), alongside the opening of October's Next Fest. The news was first reported by Inven Global and confirmed on the studio's official channels.

A week to explore Auroria for free

The demo's schedule is short, and no extension has been announced. It is worth checking the time zone conversion, because the shutdown falls on different days depending on where you are: for players in Brazil, the window closes on the afternoon of Monday, October 26.

Time zone Demo opens Demo closes
Brasília (BRT, UTC-3)Oct 19, 2:00 PMOct 26, 2:00 PM
South Korea (KST, UTC+9)Oct 20, 2:00 AMOct 27, 2:00 AM
Pacific (PDT, UTC-7)Oct 19, 10:00 AMOct 26, 10:00 AM

The window matches Valve's official festival schedule, which runs from October 19 to 26. Because Next Fest gathers hundreds of demos at once, XLGAMES bet on content that was not in the previous test to stand out: a high-level boss outside normal progression and PvP channels open from the first hours.

What you can play in the demo

The content revolves around Diamond Shores, one of the game's starting regions, with roughly two to three hours of quests. The story is set in Auroria, 50 years after the events of the original ArcheAge, and the player starts as a member of an established trading company, investigating ancient ruins and the wreckage of an airship crash.

Four classes and timing-based combat

The build features the game's four classes — Warrior, Ranger, Berserker and Mage — each backed by weapon styles and skill trees such as Battlerage, Archery, Defense and Sorcery. Combat drops the traditional tab-targeting scheme of MMORPGs and leans on well-timed dodges and parries instead of raw damage trading. In practice, it follows the same principle as action RPGs: read the incoming attack, react and punish the opening.

Throne of Hinnon, the dungeon outside the curve

Throne of Hinnon is the most talked-about addition. It is a high-level dungeon that sits outside the demo's normal progression, meaning players may find it with a character well below the recommended level. XLGAMES hid the access key somewhere in the world and turned the search into a community treasure hunt.

“Throne of Hinnon is a high-level dungeon that sits outside the demo’s normal quest progression, so it may be extremely difficult at the level you reach during the demo — but that’s part of the challenge. We’ve also hidden the key to the dungeon in a place that won’t be easy to find.”

— Yong-jin Ham, executive producer of ArcheAge Chronicles

Dungeons in the game are instanced for a solo player or parties of up to four, with quest progress shared inside the instance. The official text does not detail rewards — the stated goal is to measure mastery of the combat system.

PvP unlocked much earlier

This is the first time the general public can test the game's PvP. Normally PvP channels only open after a large part of the opening campaign; in the demo, players simply leave the first town and reach the Nui Statue to enter a PvP channel. Channels hold about 100 players each, and the world, quests and monsters are identical to those in PvE channels — the difference is that anyone outside your party or guild can attack and be attacked, with a 10% to 15% EXP bonus for killing monsters.

Servers, languages and what is left out

The demo is global, but servers are spread across five regions, which means Brazilian players will connect to North America or Europe, with the latency that implies:

Language is another point of attention. The build offers interface and text in English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese — there is no Portuguese. Voice-over is available in English and Korean, with facial animations that were missing from September's test.

Two classic pillars of the franchise are absent from the demo: housing and player trading. XLGAMES also warns that the build has bugs and limited features, and that no progress or save data will carry over to Early Access. Anyone playing now is testing the game, not getting a head start on a character.

What changed since September's network test

The September 12 test lasted about six hours and was restricted to the United States and Canada, with access granted by lottery. The community's response was harsh, and the executive producer acknowledged the problem in the letter that preceded the festival:

“Many of you also told us that the first test was too short, and that limiting access to North America made it difficult for players in other regions to take part. We’ve taken that to heart in preparing for Steam Next Fest, and I’m glad that this time we can welcome players from around the world.”

— Yong-jin Ham, in a letter published on Steam on October 17

Beyond global access, the team reports improvements to party quest sharing, joining channels with friends, clearer hints in points of interest and dungeons, ladder collision, hit detection and revised translations. The full letter is in the game's official Steam news hub.

Early Access: buy-to-play model and promises

On October 21, XLGAMES published a new video from the executive producer with plans for Early Access. The material previews three regions of Auroria at launch, future updates (removing class gender restrictions, more weapon variety, balance and progression changes) and the reasoning behind the chosen business model: the game will be buy-to-play, purchased once, with no store at launch and no pay-to-win items, according to previous studio statements.

There is still no price or date. Steam lists the release as “to be announced”, and XLGAMES itself has spoken of an Early Access phase of 9 to 12 months before version 1.0. The game is confirmed for PC and has announced versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no date on console stores. Next Fest is, therefore, the only way to play right now.

How to download and what to prioritize in a week

The process is the same as any festival demo: open the game's Steam page, click “Download Demo” and install. There is no form, invite code or purchase. For those short on time, the suggestion is to finish the first town (which unlocks the Nui Statue and, with it, PvP), try two different classes in the early hours — combat changes considerably depending on the weapon — and only then look for the Throne of Hinnon key if you want the optional challenge. Adding the game to your wishlist is the way to follow the Early Access announcement.

Why the franchise is back on the radar

Released in 2014, ArcheAge became known for its player-driven economy, trade routes and territorial disputes — and also for monetization controversies. ArcheAge Chronicles is a reimagining built in Unreal Engine 5, with combat closer to action RPGs and a cinematic campaign, but without abandoning crafts such as hunting, gathering, farming, crafting and housing, which are expected in Early Access. Now self-published by XLGAMES, without Kakao Games handling Western distribution, the project bets on direct communication with the community — producer letters, explainer videos and a global project manager posting frequent updates. The demo's performance, measured in play time and feedback, should guide the final adjustments before launch.
