Nintendo Switch Sports Resort: 12 Sports, Advanced Motion Controls and Free Wuhu Island Exploration
Published on · Updated on
Nintendo detailed Switch Sports Resort motion controls for Switch 2: 12 sports, free Wuhu Island exploration and Island Crown mode.

Nintendo has revealed more details about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 and launching on October 22, 2026. The title celebrates the legacy of motion controls that defined the original Wii, now supercharged by the advanced hardware of the Joy-Con 2 — and by the triumphant return to the iconic Wuhu Island.
12 Sports With Intuitive Motion Controls
Each of the 12 sports in the game uniquely uses the improved gyroscope and accelerometer of the Joy-Con 2. The premise is clear: the controller in your hand becomes the sports equipment.
- Tennis / Table Tennis: The Joy-Con 2 works as a racket — every twist and tilt influences the direction and spin of the ball
- Archery: One Joy-Con simulates the bow while the other draws the string, demanding precise aim and timing
- Jet Ski / Power Cruising: The controllers become handlebars — lean to accelerate and turn through the waves
- Skateboarding: Uses the mouse functionality built into the Joy-Con 2 to control balance and tricks
- Propeller Plane: Tilt the Joy-Con 2 to fly freely through the skies of Wuhu Island, exploring the landscape from above
- Jump Rope: Warm-up mini-game with precise jump detection
Free Exploration on Wuhu Island
Beyond sports competition, Switch Sports Resort brings something fans have requested since Wii Sports Resort: free and unrestricted exploration of Wuhu Island. Players can roam the island and take part in activities such as:
- Chasing dolphins in the waters around the island
- Hunting hidden hibiscus flowers in secret locations
- Collecting “Spocco Photos” — snapshots of landmarks and special moments

A brand-new mode where players progressively build skills, climb the rankings, and challenge Island Champions and legendary competitors — all without an online connection.
