Bandai Namco announced Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation 3 on October 28 during the Gundam Games 40th anniversary broadcast. The new online team combat game is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, will support cross-play, and is described as free-to-play with some paid content. The publisher has not announced a release date or launch window for any region.

What Bandai Namco has confirmed

The new entry continues the series’ online team-battle format, built around the Mobile Suit Gundam universe. The official website says players will command both mobile suits and infantry, while the announcement materials describe large-scale matches in which the two forms of combat operate side by side. The public player range is listed as one to 18, although the publisher has not explained how many people will be assigned to each team or mode.

Bandai Namco has named several works represented in the launch roster: Mobile Suit Gundam, The 08th MS Team, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. The selection spans the Universal Century and an alternate Gundam continuity. It is an initial list rather than a complete roster, so it does not establish how many mobile suits will be playable when the service opens.

The company says more Alternative Universe series are planned for future updates. No additional series, units, update dates, or schedule have been announced. For now, the statement signals that the roster may expand after launch, but it should not be read as a promise about the pace or size of those additions.

The game is online-only according to the official information. PS5 players will need a PlayStation Network account, and PC players will need a Steam account; both also require an internet connection. The rating is still pending. Bandai has not listed regional servers, language support, PC system requirements, download size, or whether cross-progression will be available.

Mobile suits and infantry share the battlefield

The combination of cockpit combat and action on foot is the clearest distinction in the announced design. Bandai Namco says players can leave their mobile suits to plant bombs at enemy bases, call in support fire, and contest strategic objectives as infantry. Those options point to matches where controlling space and timing an objective may matter as much as winning a direct exchange between machines.

The announcement does not yet explain the rules for those actions. There is no confirmed information about how long it takes to plant or defuse a bomb, how support fire is selected, or which weapons infantry can use. It is therefore too early to describe a fixed strategy. What is confirmed is the ability to change roles during a match and take part in objectives outside the mobile suit.

Each mobile suit will also receive an SP Skill, a special ability intended to reflect that unit’s combat identity and tactical role. The publisher has not revealed a complete list of skills, their effects, cooldowns, or how they will be balanced. The system could give players another decision during a sortie, but its practical impact will depend on details that have not been released.

Battle Assist is another announced feature. Bandai describes it as support for executing combos, alongside a refined interface. That may lower the barrier for newcomers without removing the need to coordinate with teammates, though there is no word yet on adjustable assistance, tutorials, or accessibility options. The company has also promised high-fidelity visuals, detailed mobile suits, and large-scale environments; hands-on performance and technical targets remain unknown.

PS5 and Steam players will be able to play together

Cross-play between PS5 and Steam is confirmed, and Bandai says the platforms will operate simultaneously. That means the game is not a console-only release: PC is part of the announcement from the outset. The source headline that brought the story into the RSS queue framed the title as console-exclusive, but the publisher’s official materials explicitly list both platforms.

Cross-play can help combine the two player pools in an online game, but several practical questions remain. Bandai has not said how players will invite friends across systems, whether accounts must be linked, if progress carries over, or whether users can opt out of cross-platform matchmaking. Those details will matter for groups who want to play together and for anyone deciding where to start.

The official platform list currently contains PS5 and Steam only. It does not mention PS4, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. Unless the publisher announces more versions, readers should not assume that the game will arrive on those systems. There is also no confirmed date for an open network test, beta, or early access outside any announced regional activities.

The free-to-play model lowers the initial purchase barrier, but the official website warns that some content will cost extra. Bandai has not identified what will be sold or whether purchases will be cosmetic, convenience-focused, or tied to gameplay. There is no confirmed battle pass, premium currency, pricing, or explanation of how paid items will interact with progression.

Release date and regional details are still pending

The official website lists the release date as to be determined. No month or launch window has been set for PS5 or Steam, and there is no Brazil-specific availability information yet. The publisher has also not shared storage requirements, supported languages, server locations, or minimum and recommended PC specifications.

The reveal took place during a broadcast celebrating 40 years of Gundam games. That anniversary provides context for the announcement, but it does not mean the release is scheduled to coincide with the celebration. Bandai opened the official website and published an announcement trailer; further updates are needed to clarify the online structure and the content planned for launch.

For now, the confirmed picture is specific but incomplete: a free-to-play team action game for PS5 and Steam, cross-play, mobile suit and infantry combat, an initial roster drawing from several Gundam series, and a release date still to come. The details players usually need before choosing a platform—regional launch, monetization, progression, and system requirements—remain unanswered.

Until a date and regional plans are published, the official site remains the best place to distinguish confirmed details from speculation.
