Final Fantasy VII Revelation: What the Final Chapter Inherits and How It Expands with Highwind, FITS System and Combat Chocobo
Published on · Updated on
FF7 Remake's final act launches April 8, 2027 with free-fly Highwind, FITS uniforms, combat Chocobo Piko and dynamic party swapping.

The wait for the conclusion of one of the most ambitious trilogies in video game history is entering its final stretch. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final chapter of the saga that began in 2020 with FF7 Remake, is confirmed to launch on April 8, 2027 for PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and Epic Games Store — simultaneously on all platforms for the first time in the series' history.
With new details revealed by Square Enix and director Naoki Hamaguchi, it is now possible to map precisely what Revelation inherits from its predecessors and where it dares to push beyond what the trilogy has built.
Highwind: The Sky Is Finally Yours
If Rebirth opened the world to land exploration, Revelation throws the skies wide open. The Highwind airship — one of the most iconic vehicles in the entire Final Fantasy franchise — is available for free transcontinental flight. But this is no autopilot sightseeing tour:
- Players can fly freely between regions of the world map
- A skydive parachute jump mechanic lets you leap from the airship and land directly in any visible region
- Previously inaccessible areas become reachable by air
FITS System: Dress to Kill
The boldest addition to the combat system is the FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear) — a tactical uniform system that radically changes each character's gameplay:
- Warrior: Focus on aggressive melee combat
- Knight: Defense and counterattacks
- Black Mage: Long-range destructive magic
- Summoner: Summons and support
Each uniform not only changes the character's moveset and combat role, but also visually alters their appearance — turning Cloud into a black mage or Tifa into a summoner, for example.

Piko: Your Chocobo Now Fights by Your Side
Companion Chocobo Piko returns from Rebirth with an expanded role. Beyond serving as a mount, Piko now works as a combat ally who evolves alongside the party, gaining new abilities for both traversal and battle. It is the first time in the trilogy that a Chocobo takes an active part in combat.
Dynamic Party Swapping and Reimagined Wutai
- Instant member swapping: For the first time, players can switch between party characters fluidly while exploring the world — no menus, no transitions
- Expanded Wutai: Yuffie's homeland has been recreated with far greater narrative importance than in the 1997 original, gaining brand-new explorable areas
About the title: Director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that “Revelation” was chosen to symbolize the “revelation of hidden truths and answers to questions fans have carried throughout the entire trilogy”.

Square Enix has confirmed a Story Expansion Pass with two narrative-focused DLCs:
- Sephiroth DLC: An expansion centered on the series' most iconic antagonist
