The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) opens South Korea's 2027 competitive calendar this weekend. Pokémon Korea will host Season 1 of the 2027 Korean League on October 24 and 25 at the Coex Magok Convention Center in Seoul. The tournament is the first of five events — including the Finals — that will determine the country's representatives at the 2027 Pokémon World Championships in Singapore. Competition is split into Junior, Senior and Masters divisions.

The event is South Korea's official gateway to the international circuit and matters to anyone following competitive TCG: beyond naming qualifiers, the opening stage sets the points pace that will shape the rest of the season.

A place in Singapore: what is at stake

Unlike a standalone championship, the Korean League works as a circuit. Each of the five events awards Championship Points to top finishers. At the end of the season, the players with the highest cumulative total earn qualification for Worlds — not necessarily the winner of one particular event, but the competitor who sustained the strongest run across the whole schedule.

The format rewards consistency. A player who reaches the later rounds across several events can overtake someone who shines in a single tournament, turning every Swiss round into a chance to add points. For teams and sponsors, the circuit also creates a continuous storyline, with rankings that evolve month after month.

Schedule: two days, two phases

The event is designed to separate the qualifying stage from the title run. On Saturday, players face Swiss rounds, where the goal is to accumulate wins without immediate elimination. On Sunday, the top finishers advance to the main bracket, played in elimination format.

The finals will be broadcast live on Pokémon Korea's official YouTube channel. Exact start times were not included in the initial announcement; the official Pokémon TCG website is the place to check the full schedule and participation instructions.

Three divisions, one arena

The Korean League separates competitors by age into Junior, Senior and Masters. The split lets children, teenagers and adults compete for titles and points in their own brackets, avoiding direct matches between players of very different ages. Each category has its own path to Worlds, with qualifiers defined by the cumulative ranking.

The model mirrors other regions of the official circuit and helps explain why South Korea develops competitive players across generations. The Junior base feeds the upper divisions over the years, while Masters concentrates many of the most experienced names in the Asian scene.

More than a tournament: the experience floor

Visitors to Coex Magok will find more than competition tables. The organizer has prepared a public area with activities for beginners and veterans, designed to introduce the card game to new audiences. Confirmed attractions include:

The Nintendo Switch 2 demos stand out because they connect the card game to the digital side of the franchise. For Pokémon Korea, the strategy is clear: use the tournament as a showcase for the entire brand, not just a niche competition. Someone who comes to watch a final may leave with a starter deck or a collector's item.

How to follow and what to expect

The finals broadcast on the official YouTube channel is the most accessible route for international fans, including viewers in Brazil. The official Pokémon TCG website gathers the rules, calendar and registration guidance for the remaining events. With five stops before the Finals, Season 1 results will be closely watched by players planning the full campaign.

For the competitive scene, the Seoul event also serves as a meta thermometer. New sets and format adjustments often appear first at large local tournaments before spreading through the international circuit. Analyzing which decks advance in the main bracket is therefore a way to anticipate trends that may reach tables worldwide.

A circuit on the rise

The 2026 Korean League edition took place at Coex in Gangnam on November 29 and 30, 2025, and served as the national qualifier for that year's Worlds in San Francisco. The move to Coex Magok, in western Seoul, follows the calendar's expansion and the need for a venue with space for broadcasts, shops and side activities.

The five-event structure also brings South Korea closer to the model used in other regions, where the ranking is built over months. For players, it means planning: choosing which events to attend, calculating the points needed and managing travel. For fans, it means a season with stories that accumulate until the decision in Singapore.

Season 1 ends on Sunday with the first major point earners of 2027. From there, the race for a Worlds spot enters a new phase — and every following event matters even more. Those who want to follow the circuit closely can start with the finals on YouTube and the updates on the official Pokémon TCG website.
