Minecraft 2026: New Rabbit Design Sparks Community Debate

Mojang Studios, the developer behind Minecraft, has revealed the first major feature of its Spring 2026 update, focusing on an overhaul of baby farm mob models. Scheduled for release during the spring season, the update aims to make baby cows, pigs, wolves, chickens, and rabbits look more like real-life offspring, moving away from the classic big-head, small-body design. While generally well-received, the change has sparked an unexpected debate among players regarding the ideal placement of the rabbit's eyes. Meanwhile, the Mojang team is hard at work refining the details ahead of the official release.

The discussion gained traction on social media, where a player demonstrated how shifting the eyes to the sides of the head—rather than the front—makes the rabbit look much more realistic. However, this push for a more nature-accurate design has split opinions. On one hand, some argue that side-facing eyes are anatomically correct for prey animals. On the other hand, a large portion of the community prefers the traditional "Killer Rabbit" aesthetic with front-facing eyes and a menacing look, which has become an iconic trademark within the game.

The armadillo precedent and the direction of updates

This isn't the first time players have influenced a mob's design. A recent and successful example was the armadillo, added in 2023. Initially, it also featured front-facing eyes, but following community feedback, Mojang repositioned them to the sides—an adjustment widely agreed to have vastly improved its look. This history shows how open the developers are to feedback, suggesting that the rabbit eye controversy could very well be revisited. Aside from the rabbit, it's also worth noting that the horse—one of the game's early mobs—has always had side-facing eyes, while the foal model hasn't been touched in this newly announced update.

Mojang's strategy for 2026 seems to focus on subtle yet impactful quality-of-life improvements rather than just adding massive new biomes or structures. The baby animal revamp is a clear indicator of this direction, valuing the refinement of details fans see and interact with every day. As a result, the spring update might just be the prelude to deeper and more layered farming mechanics, making farm life in the blocky world even richer and more rewarding for players in Brazil and all around the globe, with features currently slated for the Brazilian market as well.
