A new romantic drama work promises to shake up Japan's digital manga catalog. Creators Atari Katagiri and Makoto Kisaragi have officially launched the series Watashi-tachi no Koto wa Nanto Yobeba (which translates to What Should We Call Our Relationship?). The title debuted on the Manga UP! service, operated by publisher Square Enix.
The production splits creative duties between the two authors: Atari Katagiri handles scriptwriting and main artwork, while Makoto Kisaragi is in charge of page composition.
From Childhood Sweethearts to Siblings Under One Roof
The narrative premise of Watashi-tachi no Koto wa Nanto Yobeba follows Mineko and Sunao (also referred to as Kan). During high school, the two were in a close romantic relationship, seeing in each other the person who understood them best in the entire world. The situation changes drastically when both of their single parents decide to get married, turning the young lovers into step-siblings overnight.
Faced with their new family bond, the couple mutually agrees to put the relationship on hold to preserve household harmony. Years later, a tragedy strikes their lives with the sudden death of their parents in an accident. Now independent adults responsible for themselves, Mineko and Sunao end up living under the same roof, having to navigate daily life while keeping memories of their past romance a secret.
